The Dakar Rally is a gruelling competition in motorsports that requires participants to travel thousands of kilometres across rough, off-road terrain. The Dakar Rally 2020 event took place in the deserts of Saudi Arabia for the first time. The rally starts in Jeddah and finishes 12 stages and nearly 8,000 km later in Qiddiyah. The race has 351 vehicles and 557 participants from 53 different countries.
Challenge
Journalist Franco Iannone turned to Know IT for a connectivity solution since 75% of the race is on the sand. He needs a solution that would guarantee him a fast and reliable internet connection even while in the desert. This will allow him to stay online and give live testimonials to viewers during the race.
Solution
Know ITs solution for Iannone included a Peplink dual modem router, the MAX Transit Duo LTE-A, and two antennas. With four SIM cards in the MAX Transit Duo LTE-A, Iannone had up to four different operators to ensure the best network coverage. In addition, SpeedFusion can aggregate bandwidth and provide further reliability. This allowed Iannone to easily share content such as photos and videos directly to social media platforms.
Result
Iannone was able to stay online and share every step of his Dakar Rally journey with his viewers. He shared photos, videos, updates, news, and interviews that all loaded quickly and were buffer-free. Iannone was also able to focus on what he loves as accurate GPS tracking and SpeedFusion allowed Know IT to manage devices remotely.
